NEWS AND HIGHLIGHT

LOOKING AT BIOPLASTIC BIODEGRADABILITY

May 20, 2021

Welcome Joandra Abbyqael Taniara, a new intern supporting our biomaterials development section. She will be working on bioplastic research in particular looking at how biodegradable various types of bioplastics are. She also will be helping our science product development team preparing exciting science kits in her spare time at our sister Center, the Emmerich Invention.

NEW INTERN AT THE LAB

May 3, 2021

Today we welcome two new interns in our lab. Eggy Wirahman and Dennis Christian are currently pursuing their bachelor degree at the electrical engineering department at UPH. They will be working under our engineers and scientists developing new instruments and characterizing novel materials.

WELCOMING A NEW RESEARCHER IN OUR LAB

April 26, 2021

We are excited for the joining of Ms. Yovita who will be carrying out research in our biotech areas. Welcome and may we together discover new science that may help improve the lives of many.

March 28, 2021

We are very proud and grateful for Mr. Ray being admitted to a prestigious Ph.D. program in computer science at University of Chicago. Congratulations to Mr. Ray! He will start Fall 2021. May the preparation goes smoothly.

KJEHLDAL INSTRUMENT UPGRADE HAS ARRIVED

February 18, 2021

Finally, it is here. This upgrade to our existing Kjehldal protein analyzer will allow the researchers to characterize more samples in one go.

WELCOME TO OUR NEW MEMBERS

January 20, 2021

We welcome the new year with the joining of several researchers Mr. Nathanel Timothy who will be our computer engineer, Ms. Sannia City who will help develop education products and assist our biotech department, and Timothy Bastiaan who will be working on novel materials development and characterization.

NEW OUTDOOR PROCESSING LAB IS SETUP

January 18, 2021

Located at the top floor of our center overlooking the city is a new outdoor processing lab for testing and simulating processes to support the up-scaling of the methods developed in the other labs.

FOOD PROCESSING LAB UPDATE

November 30, 2020

A unit of freeze-drier has arrived. The unit is housed in our food processing laboratory enabling our researchers to further expand their research in food, feed, and biomaterials. The freeze-drier is capable to freeze samples down to -55 deg C with ample space for samples such as colloidal solutions,

PROJECT INITIATION - VISION BASED PRODUCT GRADER

November 25, 2020

New project begins at the lab as our researchers work with engineers and fruit producers to build vision-based product grader in the upcoming months. Looking forward to the fruit of this collaboration between the lab and industry.

PATENT FILING - ROBOTIC SYSTEM (INDONESIA, PATENT PENDING 2020) WITH HERMETIA BIO SCIENCE

November 12, 2020

An important milestone has been reached by our researchers and collaborators and partner over at Hermetia Bio Science on their patent application of a robotic system to monitor, train, hydrate, and treat new growth fungal materials. To build this system, researchers at EMRC and engineers at HBS/CES had to integrate two seemingly incompatible systems, one based on PLC industrial standard with another based on SBC open-source microcontrollers into one seamless system. Several notable innovations include, development of automated infection detection using computer vision techniques, noise filtration module to maintain a stable I/O signal between the SBC and PLC, a back EMF voltage protection module for the SBCs, and self-levelling surface treatment fingers for training the new-growth fungal fibers into lateral network.

PATENT FILING - INDUSTRIAL PROCESS (INDONESIA, PATENT PENDING 2020) WITH HERMETIA BIO SCIENCE

September 28, 2020

After three years of intensive research by our industry partner Hermetia Bio Science with our center, a patent has been filed about a new method of insect rearing in particular, black soldier flies, using protein improved wastes from palm oil industries that resulted in highly efficient breeding of black soldier fly larvae for various value added products. We hope this work will bring positive impacts to our environment as well to improve the quality of life of many people from nutritional, medical, and health perspective.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THREE OF OUR RESEARCHERS FOR BEING ADMITTED TO MASTERS PROGRAM AT TOP UNIVERSITIES IN INDONESIA

August 29, 2020

Three of our researchers have been admitted to Masters program in some of the top universities in the nation. Ms. Sherlyn Putri Wijaya pursues Masters degree in biotechnology at Universitas Atma Jaya while Ms. Fransiska Rusli and Mr. Alvius Tinambunan pursue Masters degree in food technology and physics, respectively, at Institut Pertanian Bogor. It is remarkable that despite their full workload at the lab, they are also able to work in parallel on their Masters degree, readily sacrificing their time. It is a clear testimony of their passion and hunger for science. Congratulations again and good luck.

NEW INTERN AT THE LAB

August 1, 2020

Today we welcome a new intern in our lab. Frentsen Adeputra is currently pursuing his bachelor degree at the computer science department at Ukrida university. He will work with our electrical engineers and computer scientists in developing various apps and systems.

CO-ADVISING UNIVERSITY STUDENT SENIOR PROJECT IN ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT UPH

May 25, 2020

Today we welcome Timothy Bastiaan, a student at UPH Electrical Engineering department to our group. Timothy is going to spend several months working on his university project in our lab. He is advised by Dr. Henri Uranus of UPH and co-advised by Dr. Eden Steven our center director.

THE FOUNDING OF EMMERICH INVENTION - SISTER CENTER FOR COMMERCIAL PRODUCT INNOVATION

April 12, 2025

The central mission of our group of centers, Emmerich Education Center and Emmerich Research Center has always been to accelerate innovation in all aspect of life, from educational to industrial sectors. Over the years countless ideas and prototypes are developed and demonstrated at our centers due mostly to necessity. Some of the lab equipment for example are not available in the local market, thus our researchers had to innovate and invent our own version of scientific instruments. In some cases, these in-house built instruments performed far better than other systems in the market. In educational sector, our learning curriculum and hands-on science camps were all custom developed by our in-house researchers. With these gathered experience, encouragement, feedbacks from colleagues and collaborators, we felt the need to have a centralized and focused department to bring these prototypes to the market. Bringing prototypes into commercial level products so many people can enjoy our inventions. It is therefore with excitement we announce the founding of Emmerich Invention, a platform for innovators to invent. It is a dynamic center yet focused on bringing ideas into the market, from concept to prototypes to production and commercialization. Now is the time to invent!
